Decode the cry in seconds. Soothe faster. Everyone sleeps.
The Decoder Wheel
Tap the sound you hear before the full cry.
Neh
I'm hungry
A cry is rarely one thing. If the first guess doesn't land in a minute, trust your eyes — check the body-language tells, then run 3 AM Triage. You know your baby better than any app.
The Five Sounds
Australian researcher Priscilla Dunstan noticed babies make five reflex sounds in the pre-cry window — the soft seconds before the full wail. Catch the sound early and you can meet the need before the storm.
Body Language
The body speaks before the voice. These are the classic pre-cry tells to catch needs early.
Cry Types
Beyond the sounds, the pattern tells you a lot. Learn the shape and you'll read the room faster.
Sound Trainer
The whole game is hearing the sound before the cry takes over. Practice the shapes below, then test yourself.
Sound 1 of 5 · listen for the shape
These are rhythm-and-pitch illustrations generated on your phone — not recordings of a real baby. They train the pattern: rising vs. falling, short vs. drawn-out. The real thing you learn by listening at the crib.

3 AM Triage
Half-asleep and nothing's working? Tap through. You'll get a ranked checklist — the moves most likely to work, in order.
Soothing Toolkit
Dr. Harvey Karp's method recreates the womb. Do them in order, give each one real time — babies need a beat to settle. The timer keeps you patient when your patience is gone.
Ready when you are
A baby borrows your nervous system. A tight jaw, a racing heart, a sharp voice — they feel all of it, and it winds them tighter. Before you pick them up: drop your shoulders, unclench your jaw, breathe out slowly and twice as long as you breathe in. You settling is step one of them settling. This isn't soft advice — it's the mechanism.
Cry Log
Log a few days and the fog lifts — you'll see the 5 PM fussy window, the reliable hunger clock, what actually works. Bring it to your pediatrician and it's gold.
Bonus · Feeding
Here's a thing almost nobody tells new parents — and it changes everything about picky eating.
There's a real, closing window when babies are wired to accept new flavors. It runs roughly from 4 to 18 months, strongest around 4–7 months when solids begin. Go wide on purpose during it: bitter greens, herbs, spices, "boring" veggies, world flavors — one new food at a time, expecting 8–15 tries before a food lands. Repeated exposure is the whole secret.
Then, right on schedule, the door starts closing. Around 18–24 months toddlers get suspicious of new food and stay that way, peaking between 2 and 6 years. Scientists call it food neophobia — and the leading theory is beautifully simple:
So when your 2-year-old suddenly rejects the broccoli they loved at 8 months — that's not failure, it's biology. You didn't do anything wrong. And the head start you built in the flavor window is exactly what carries them through it.
This is the science that says feed your baby real food early — the herbs, the savory broth, the bold flavors of home. Bà ngoại was doing flavor training before it had a name. The old-country instinct to feed babies grown-up flavors? It was right all along.
Safety rails first: no honey before 12 months, watch for choking hazards (cut round foods, no whole nuts/grapes), and introduce common allergens early but one at a time. When in doubt, your pediatrician is the authority — not this app.
Bonus · Sleep
Half of "why won't they settle" is an overtired baby who was ready to sleep 20 minutes ago. Watch the window, not the clock.
Alone — no pillows, bumpers, blankets, or toys in the sleep space.
Back — always place baby on their back to sleep.
Crib — a firm, flat crib or bassinet, not a couch, adult bed, or car seat for sleep.
Never paywalled · Safety
Most crying is normal. But some cries are your baby telling you something's wrong. This section is free, always. Trust your gut — you know your baby.
If a healthy, growing baby cries hard for hours — often evenings, often starting around 2–3 weeks, peaking near 6 weeks, easing by 3–4 months — that's likely the Period of PURPLE Crying: Peak, Unexpected, Resists soothing, Pain-like face (but not in pain), Long-lasting, Evening. It's a phase, not a forecast — no link to later problems. Rule out illness with your doctor, then know: sometimes nothing "works," and that's not your failure.
Never paywalled · You matter too
You cannot pour from an empty cup, and a crying baby is designed to push you to your edge. Read this before you need it.
It is always safe to put your baby down in the crib, on their back, and walk away for five minutes to breathe.
A crying baby in a safe crib is never the emergency. You reaching your limit alone is the thing to act on. Feeling furious or overwhelmed doesn't make you a bad parent — it makes you human and exhausted. Never, ever shake a baby: even a few seconds can cause lifelong harm. Put them down. Breathe. Call someone. Come back.
This isn't just "baby blues." If for two weeks or more you feel persistent sadness, dread, rage, numbness, scary intrusive thoughts, or you can't sleep even when baby does — that's a medical condition, it's common, it's treatable, and it's not your fault. Dads and partners get it too. Reaching out is strength.
